What are emergency exit doors?
In accordance with Polish regulations (Regulation on technical conditions) doors used on escape routes:
- they must open towards evacuation,
- they must enable keyless opening,
- they must have the appropriate width and heightto ensure free exit,
- should be equipped with emergency or anti-panic fittings, compliant with standards:
- EN 179 – emergency fittings (for buildings with limited access),
- EN 1125 – anti-panic fittings (for public facilities where the quick evacuation of a larger number of people is important).
Do emergency exit doors need to be certified?
This is a question many investors ask themselves:
“Do I need an emergency door certificate to accept the building?”
Recipes they do not introduce a separate category of "certified emergency exit doors"The manufacturer introduces doors to the market in accordance with the standard PN-EN 14351-1 (external/internal doors) and marks them CE.
To serve as an evacuation aid, they must be equipped with certified emergency fittings (PN-EN 179 or PN-EN 1125) i.e. emergency fittings and/ or anti-panic.
So formally – there is no obligation to have an additional “emergency door” certificate.
Answer:
- For standard emergency exit doors: recipes do not impose the obligation to have a separate "escape door" certificateThe manufacturer introduces doors to the market in accordance with PN-EN 14351-1 (external/internal doors) and marks them CE.
- The key is that they are equipped with certified emergency or anti-panic fittings.
So why does our company have emergency door certificates?
Because we know that investors, designers and inspectors often expect unambiguous confirmationthat complete set (leaf + frame + fittings) meets all evacuation requirements.
Because We voluntarily subjected our doors to additional tests at certification bodies and we got emergency door certificate.
This is added value for our clients – facilitates the acceptance of the building and provides a full guarantee of safety.
Do fire doors on escape routes need to be certified?
The situation is different here.
Fire doors used on escape routes must be certified as a complete set – a separate certificate for the door leaf and separate certificates for the fittings are not enough.
Dlaczego?
- Each element of the door (leaf, frame, lock, door closer) influences its behavior in fire conditions.
- Fire doors must undergo fire tests in their complete configuration (PN-EN 1634-1), and their fire resistance (e.g. EI30, EI60) is confirmed in fire classification certificate.
Our doors are fully certified for both fire resistance and evacuation function. Thanks to this, the investor can be sure that the selected set is legal and safe.
What documents are needed when accepting emergency and fire doors?
For regular emergency exit doors:
- Declaration of Performance (DoP) compliant with PN-EN 14351-1,
- Fittings certificates (PN-EN 179 or PN-EN 1125).
For fire doors on escape routes:
- Fire classification certificate (PN-EN 13501-2),
- Fire resistance test report (PN-EN 1634-1),
- Declaration of Performance (DoP),
- Certificates of fittings approved for use in fire doors.
Why choose certified doors?
Although for standard emergency exit doors the certificate for the entire set is not a formal requirement, its possession provides a number of benefits:
- Confident building acceptance – inspectors and fire brigades accept a complete set of documented solutions more quickly.
- Safety Guarantee – you can be sure that the sash, fittings and installation method have been tested as a whole.
- Investor protection – the certificate provides proof that the building has been equipped in accordance with best practice and regulations.
Summary
- Standard emergency exit doors – they do not have to have a separate certificate, but it is worth choosing those that do.
- Fire doors on escape routes – must be tested and certified as a set.
- Certified doors it means safety, easier reception and peace of mind for years to come.
