More and more investors and homeowners are looking for solutions that combine sun protection, thermal insulation and facade aesthetics. SkyTwin - a new type system roller-screen — integrates a traditional external roller blind with a technical fabric such as screen, creating a single, compact solution for windows and glazing. The product is offered by aluminum systems manufacturer Aluprof and available in our DOOR Filipek range.
What is SkyTwin?
SkyTwin is a system in which the moving roller blind elements filled with polyurethane foam coexist with the external fabric. screen (reflexol) placed in the same cassette, i.e. fabric integrated with the roller blindThis allows the user to simultaneously benefit from the anti-burglary protection and thermal insulation typical of external roller shutters, as well as the light and visibility control and heat reduction provided by screen fabrics. The ZIP system also provides additional insect protection while maintaining the desired level of visibility outside.

The most important advantages of SkyTwin
- Dual function in one product — space saving and simpler installation compared to installing two separate systems.
- Better thermal protection all year round — the roller blind reduces heat loss in winter, the screen reduces heating in summer.
- Light and visibility control — Screen fabrics allow you to regulate the penetration of light, keeping the view outside without strong glare.
- Durability and resistance to weather conditions — Technical fabrics (e.g., from the Soltis range by Serge Ferrari) are designed for UV, wind, and moisture resistance. The manufacturer guarantees an appropriate warranty on the products. Fabric specifications can be selected during order configuration, taking into account fabric type, color, and openness factor (OF).
- Aesthetics and façade fitting — many colors and textures, possible to harmonize with the facade.
- Wind-resistant zip fabrics – thanks to the use of special ZIP guidance, the screens are tested and certified based on wind resistance in the appropriate wind classes.
Who is SkyTwin the best choice for?
- Owners of houses and apartments with large glazing (terraces, balconies) who want to combine protection, privacy, and energy savings. Combining these two products provides significant benefits in terms of heat transfer and solar radiation.
- Investors in public buildings and office buildings, where energy certificates and acoustic/lighting comfort are important.
- People who value a minimalist look – one system instead of two installed separately.
How fabric screen in SkyTwin and what technical features does it offer?
Manufacturers of fabrics such as screen Aluprof (including Serge Ferrari and other renowned brands such as Copaco) offers materials designed specifically for outdoor solar shading. The key technical properties of these fabrics include:
- Light transmittance and openness factor — Different options (e.g., 4%, 14%, etc.) determine how much light and view is let in. This allows you to find a compromise between visibility and sun protection.
- Protection against solar radiation and heat — Selected Soltis fabrics can block a significant portion of solar energy (for example, up to approximately 97% of heat in certain variants), acting as a “shield” that reduces cooling requirements.
- UV resistance and color fastness — The pigments and production technologies used ensure long-lasting resistance to fading. The use of glass fiber significantly extends the fabric's lifespan and resistance to temperature changes.
- Mechanical strength — high resistance to stretching, tearing, and weather conditions (rain, wind). Précontraint® is an example of technology that improves dimensional stability and durability.
Technology Précontraint®, patented by the company Serge ferrari, is used to produce flexible composites with exceptional lightness and dimensional stability. In this process, a polymer coating is applied to a polyester (PET) microcable carrier, maintaining the material in a state of biaxial tension—in both the warp and weft directions—throughout the production process. This solution gives the materials special properties, including high resistance to deformation under load, significantly extending their durability.
The impact of the roller-screen (SkyTwin) on building parameters
- Energy savingThe outer screen fabric reduces the greenhouse effect (less heat gets into the interior), and the roller blind improves winter insulation—this combination reduces air conditioning and heating costs. Fabric manufacturer sources indicate a significant reduction in heat transfer in Soltis models (e.g., Soltis 92).
- Visual comfort: less glare, ability to maintain the view to the outside while controlling the light intensity.
- Protection of interior furnishings: reducing UV rays that cause fabrics and furniture to fade.
- Acoustics: external blinds improve sound insulation from outside; when combined with a screen, the effect can be enhanced by providing a second layer between the interior and exterior. (Depending on the design and materials)
Principles of application and assembly
- Selecting the fabric variant — choose the openness depending on the window orientation: on the south side, less openness (greater protection) is preferred, while east/west you can use more "transparent" fabrics.
- Integration with the window/frame — SkyTwin is designed for installation in a built-in structure or above a window opening; the installation should be performed by an authorized installer to maintain the tightness and proper functioning of both layers.
- controlling — SkyTwin systems are available with a wired or radio drive (remote control/weather automation), which facilitates daily operation and programming of behavior in strong sun/wind conditions.
- Wind & rain considerations — in extreme weather conditions, external screens have specific wind resistance classes; fabric and system manufacturers provide permissible loads — check the specifications before installation.
How to clean and care for screen fabric?
The fabric manufacturer (e.g. Serge Ferrari) recommends simple, regular maintenance procedures that significantly extend the life of the fabric:
- Periodic cleaning (easy staining): Rinse the surface with clean water and wipe with a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid using products containing solvents (e.g., white spirit).
- Cleaning for more difficult stains: use dedicated detergents recommended by the manufacturer (e.g. Cleaner 500 and/ or Formula S in Serge Ferrari documents) - apply, leave on briefly, brush gently with a soft brush and rinse thoroughly with water. The pH of the detergent used should be in the acceptable range (usually 5-11).
- Spot cleaning: immediately remove bird droppings, resin and other substances that may damage the coating or dye.
- Cyclic checks: check the condition of the guides, fasteners and roller shutter mechanics; remove any leaves and sand from the cassettes and guides.
- Avoid aggressive brushes and solvents — may damage the fabric coating and shorten its lifespan.
